Given our site, a permanently closed Bed Bath & Beyond in Pasadena, our task was to adaptively reuse the existing building and design a basketball sports complex. Petal Point Sports Center reuses most of the existing CMU walls but introduces a new roof, which was inspired by the Pasadena rose symbol. The monumental roof design with the exposed structure underneath is a prominent symbol of the building, incorporating natural daylight to enhance the integration of existing and new structures. This center is a space where communities can gather to play sports, enjoy each other's company, and create a more welcoming environment.
