Plastic Tsunami (58in. x 48in. x 56in.)

In the future, the littered plastic bottles on earth will overflow, break through the walls, and fall on human society like a Tsunami. Mother Nature takes revenge by causing a natural disaster after being trashed with non-biodegradable material.

I stacked more than 150 bottles, which I collected over 6 months, to create this protruding installation. I used fishing reel strings to support the weight of the bottles.

The white bottle caps were collected separately and glued on the edge to create a sea foam effect.

Breaking The Bamboo Ceiling (22in. x 22in. x 23in)
Revolving around the term "Bamboo Ceiling", the intertwined hexagons represent the Asian-American people who are struggling. By fighting through the structured American society as a resilient team, the hexagons finally break through the systematic oppression. I created hexagons with bamboo sticks because a major content of bamboo fiber is cellulose, a hexagonal chemical structure. Bamboo trees are known to grow straight and tall but this installation is purposely slanted underneath the roof to represent hardship. At the top where the bamboo breaks free, the bamboo grows straight up to show its original figure.
